Unchain Our Hearts

Friend or Foe as featured in Fancy Pants.

Set us free just as long as we can hang onto one of these chain knit scarves, the perfect accessory for the fast approaching winter looming in the Northern Hemisphere. Produced by off-beat South African label, Friend or Foe – the creative duo of James Williams and Dominique Sarah Benton. Originally based in Cape Town, South Africa they are currently working on a stint in Seoul, South Korea.

The duo found their niche, a response to a the overly cute kitsch and pop design trends they found to be prevalent in Cape Town. A place like so many metropolitan cities where independent creatives struggle to eek out their place.

Friend or Foe the brand’s name plays on the question – in a competitive free market, who really is the friend or foe. Brand concept aside, we love the mix and match, build your own layers idea of the scarves that places them between clothing and jewellery. Since New York based knitwear label, Wool and The Gang convinced us of the knitting revival a while back, we are always on the look out for fun new spins on knitwear and Friend and Foe’s scarf chain collection definitely fits the bill.
