The Addo
Cape Town-based Sobeit Studio, run by design duo Bartèl van Vuuren & Liezle Fourie (jewelry) introduce their Regency style inspired mirrors, ‘The Looking Glass‘ collection,
as whimsical interior decorative items that speak of childhoods of yesteryear – that is when we still played with animal figurines. Theirs, a new take on the exotic motifs typifying the style, one coined after the British Regent George Prince of Wales during the early 19th century.
With names conjuring local landmarks like ‘The Addo’ featured above, named after one of South Africa’s renown Elephant parks to honouring naturalists from across the globe such as Diane Fossey, Jacques Cousteu to George Adamsons with motifs resonating their legacies. A subtle, if not humorous nod to heroes of days gone by and beyond this, a fun interior item that mixes a classical form with a flair of pop. Mirrors are available for order, with requests made through their website or e-mail. They plan to showcase a new selection of products at the next annual, Design Indaba fair in South Africa.
