The inaugural ‘In Focus’ section of Another Africa’s online magazine kicks off July 2011 with Japanese artist Megumi Matsubara sharing about her recent experience and projects in Nairobi, Kenya completed during a one-month art residency program this past March 2011.
Together with Megumi, we will trace her days spent in this East African capital city. We hope you will enjoy this window to this city, through the artist’s eye.
Features will include excerpts from her self-initiated social portraits of urban living through the ‘Sociological Lunch’ series with five Nairobians and a moderated conversation on STRA, a public artistic intervention and installation together with collaborator, Nairobi-based artist, Otieno Kota.
Megumi Matsubara is a Japanese artist whose practice spans from static architecture to ephemeral situations including installation, sculpture, performance, music and writings. She is a founding member of assistant since 2002.
